1972 National Champions – A Historic Season
A Championship Run for the Ages
In 1972, Ballwin Post 611 captured the American Legion World Series title, marking one of the most remarkable achievements in Missouri Legion baseball history. The team battled through district, state, and regional tournaments before advancing to the World Series in Memphis.
After dropping their opening game, Ballwin fought back through the loser’s bracket, winning six straight elimination games. On the final day, they defeated undefeated Memphis—needing to win twice and doing exactly that—to secure the national championship.
